If you’ve felt that way, you’re not alone girlfriend! I used to feel that way and once I accepted the fact that I don’t have to be running after trends in order to feel and look stylish, it became a total game-changer.
With the right basics, you can create your own style trends and feel and look fabulous each time you get dressed.
Here are my top 10 of my favorite basics that every woman should have in their wardrobe.
There’s many more on my list though! If you want the entire list, just click here to get them.
Speaking of my top favorites…Here’s are my top favorite Stylish Mom Hacks – click here to get them.
Stylish wardrobe basics for every season
With these basics, you don’t need to go out and chase those trends and spend tons of money whenever the new season starts. By having a wardrobe with basic trends, you really can get away with looking and feeling stylish, which is really what it’s all about.
-
A white t-shirt
You don’t need to spend tons on the white t-shirt because if you’re anything like me, I’m sometimes a bit messy, they’re messy, and I get dirty so stains happen easily. My favorite finds for these are at Target or even Walmart.
-
A button-down white top
Spending a little bit more for better quality is a good way to go because these are dressier and great for business attire. You can make it look very chic and stylish; dress it up, dress it down with a pair of jeans, or a fun pair of leather leggings for a more chic and sexy look.
-
Denim jeans
My favorite denim jeans right now are from Cabi. But I love all denim really! Dark wash, light wash, it doesn’t matter.
-
A black t-shirt
I know, seems a little boring and basic, which it is. But again with the right jewelry, a denim jacket or beige moto jacket, you’re all set. There’s so much you can do with a black top.
-
Faux (or real) leather leggings
There used to be this whole controversy behind wearing leather, especially for women in their 40s and 50s. It is not controversial! Get them out now in winter months! Dress them up, dress them down, add a fun pair of heels or high-knee boots with your white button-down top or a white t-shirt and maybe even a denim jacket over and you’ve already created an outfit just from your basics.
-
A black blazer
My favorite finds for blazers are at Express, New York and Company and Banana Republic.
Whether you work out of the home, work from home or are looking for a stylish outfit for a fun night out, a black blazer works wonderfully. Adding a graphic tee or tank top, jewelry and slacks or denim jeans make for a great outfit out of a basic black blazer.
-
A little black dress
A little black dress doesn’t mean a cocktail dress. Just a simple little black dress that has multiple uses. Dress it up with heels and classic jewelry or add leggings underneath and sporty sneakers.
-
A leather jacket
Go for a classic leather jacket or even a leather beige moto jacket.
-
A black heel
You don’t have to just wear black heels with dresses or with nice dress pants. You can wear them with jeans. So that gives a really fun, stylish and elevated look to just wearing a casual outfit, by the shoes that you have on.
- Fun pair of flats
Always pair outfits up with a fun pair of flats. They help to bring out the sass!
Bonus stylish wardrobe basics – Jewelry!
This can sometimes be challenging for us women because we’re on the go and overthink what jewelry to wear with what outfit. Having at minimum a long necklace, short necklace, bold statement piece, statement earrings, stud earrings, and some bracelets allows you to have a put-together look that you can mix and match with your basic garments giving your wardrobe a fresh look.

Once you’ve downloaded the basics checklist, take inventory of what you have and don’t have. If you don’t have something listed, it’s okay. You don’t have to go and shop for all of the basics on the checklist. But you can start to get an idea of working pieces that may help fill in those gaps in your wardrobe to make it easier to get dressed in the morning and feel like your wardrobe is actually working for you.
When we don’t have a wardrobe with basics, we tend to feel as if we have to run after trends and constantly shop which ends up adding more clutter to our closet. The next thing you know, you have a closet full of clothes and feel like you have nothing to wear.
