Whether you’re an earring lover or not, earrings are in my opinion the most important accessory. As I’m writing this I’ve come home from a long day out and about between business meetings, school pick up and kids’ activities and couldn’t wait to take off my fabulous Premier Designs necklace, then bracelets and rings but my earrings are always still in. Well, up until I go to bed.
Earrings show off your gorgeous face! Everyone’s face is unique and you should make it stand out and that’s exactly what earring do. How often do you wonder if a pair of earrings are flattering on you? It’s a very common question that I get asked when women are around my Premier Designs Jewelry display at a Style Workshop and for good reason.
There are so many shapes, sizes, colors and types. It can be a bit overwhelming especially if you’re an earring lover because earrings are a great way to add life to an outfit and give you a put-together-look without breaking the bank.
There are some things to consider before when choosing the right pair of earrings that fit your style.
At the top of the list is your face shape.
Although you’re accessorizing such a small part of your body, what you decorate your ears with can make your face look wider, thinner, longer or rounder so matching your face shape to the right earrings shape is a game changer.
If you’re not sure what shape your face is, the cleanest way to go about it is to take a piece of soap and while you’re standing in front of the mirror, trace your face along the outside of your face and then take a step back to get a better look at the shape that you traced.
Once you’ve figured out your face shape, then you can get a better idea of the types of earrings that will better flaunt your beauty.
Below are some face shape descriptions and earring types to look out for. This is in NO WAY a rule but a little reference to better guide you and give you some ideas. Ultimately, you want to look for earrings that are not the same shape as your face.
INVERTED TRIANGLE SHAPED FACE
A triangular shaped face is where the forehead is the widest part of your face, and narrows down as you get closer to your chin. Earrings that are wider at the bottom than at the top would work well for this face shape. The goal is to balance that triangular look so you’re going to want to choose earrings that de-emphasize your forehead and create an illusion with the width of your jawline.
To do so, the best types of earrings for you are going to be teardrop earrings or earrings that are wider at the bottom and narrow at the top (opposite to your face). Here are a few great examples from my Premier Designs collection.
DIAMOND SHAPED FACE
This shaped face tends to be where your eyes and the widest part of your face are in line with each other and your forehead’s width mirrors your chins width.
Earrings that balance the angles of your face work well with a diamond shaped face. Chandelier earrings that are wider at the bottom or studs and earrings close to your ear are great options.
Oval Shaped Face
An oval shaped face can be compared to the shape of an egg and you’re in luck!
An oval face shaped can get away with any earring shape and size but chandelier earrings are gorgeously flattering.
Triangular earrings or simple studs will also really show off your cheekbones the best. Here are some really fun examples from my Premier Designs collection.

Round Shaped Face
A round shaped face is just that – your face makes a full circle. Your goal is to add length to your face. Long skinny earrings do the trick as well as ones with a slight curve. Best is to avoid button and round shaped earrings and hoops.
These examples are sure to work for you to elongate your face.
Heart Shaped Face
If you have a heart shaped face you’ll notice your forehead is wider than your cheeks and the lower half of your face narrows like a heart. In this case, you want to counterbalance your narrow chin with inverted triangle shaped earrings to balance your face.
Some fabulous earrings are:
Oblong Shaped Face
An oblong shaped face is a long, narrow face where your jawline is a bit rounded.
You want to choose earrings that emphasize the width of your face. You’ll want to choose a beautiful sparkly stud style of earrings.
Premier Designs has a great selection of sparkly studs.
Square Shaped Face
A square shaped face is where your jaw and hairline and chin and forehead make a square.
You’ll want to choose earrings with dimensions, soft and round shapes and studs. No squares!
You really do have lots of options with a square shaped face.
There’s so many earring options that no matter what your face shape is and what the trends are, go with what you feel comfortable in and what fits your personality.
