Wonder what the best parts of having a side hustle are? Being able to work on your time, work around your family’s activities, not having to report back to anyone during the day, to name a few. More importantly, knowing that every business decision and accomplishment made is impacting you and your family’s goals and dreams – not someone else’s.
As I’m typing this, I’m getting my kids ready for school and packing lunch boxes, and I’ve reheated my coffee three times already (Moms – I know you can relate). I’m also getting my busy work done so I can take a break and get a massage then nails done. Sounds amazing? Well, the massage and nails part – YES! Let’s be real though, that’s not an everyday occasion.
Being a work-from-home Mom
What does happens everyday is that I control my schedule. Instead of having to take time out of my weekend during our family time to do some self-love, I have the flexibility to do it during the weekday.
The rest of my day today will be comprised of a couple conference calls and client work for my other business (I also own an advertising/marketing agency) and working on simple style solutions for a client, to name the business items. Then, for the family, grocery curbside pick-up (huge time saver!), school pick-up, homework, gymnastics class for one kid, soccer practice for the other, making dinner, and folding clothes. Finally, when it’s time to relax, maybe playing a bit of catch up on my DVR (This Is Us and Grey’s Anatomy) while spending some alone time with the hubs and then bedtime.
Being a work-from-home mom is still crazy busy but I wouldn’t change it for the world. If it wasn’t for my “side hustle” job as a style coach and image consultant with Premier Designs Jewelry, I wouldn’t be able to do all of that and be present at the same time. Here’s the thing, when you have a side hustle that allows you the flexibility to do as much or as little as you want while make an amazing and realistic income. When you add in the opportunity of entrepreneurship, you’re able to create a life that is fulfilling all around.
In my other lifetime, I worked in corporate America for almost 10 years.
My life was consumed with work. Sure, I made a great income but it was all work, work, work to get there. Then, soon after the housing bubble we began struggling through some really tragic financial difficulties. My husband’s mortgage business was turning into no business and a part-time job on top of my full-time job was looking like a necessity. But seriously, who wants to work a part-time job on top of a full-time career in addition to other responsibilities as a wife and mother to a toddler? When would we ever be together? And for what? To work for $10 per hour on the week nights and weekends on someone else’s clock? My choices weren’t looking so good. I was going to have to do whatever I had to do.
Then the unexpected happened. A friend of mine shared with me the Premier Designs Jewelry business opportunity. The interesting thing is that I didn’t really wear jewelry or have experience in retail. In fact, I was that friend that never RSVPed to the “jewelry party” invite. However, listening to their purpose and philosophy to serve other women along with the generous pay and no quotas is what drew my attention. It seemed like a no-brainer. You mean I can bring in the income I needed without being away from my family too much more outside of my full-time job. Dah! Of course I’m in (even though I didn’t wear any fashion jewelry nor did I really care to)!
My motto was just “Fake it until you Feel it”, a quote I learned from author of the book, Business Boutique by Christy Wright.
I quit my corporate career to start my own business!
With that, I did it with fear and six months into my styling business with Premier (a.k.a The Style Rebel Mama) I resigned from my almost 10-year corporate career and made the move to launch my own boutique advertising and marketing agency, HYPE Media.
Through trainings provided by my Premier “Mom”, local trainings, Premier’s videos, Premier Stylists’ facebook groups and my continued training, I learned how to do this side hustle just as you would learn through trainings in a new job. The difference is, when you learn YOUR business and work YOUR business what drives you is the fulfillment in knowing that you are your own boss and working for your goals and dreams.
Interested in learning more about what Premier Designs could do for you?
Although I still continue to manage and work my other business and our family is financially in a much better place than where we were back in 2009, I’m still doing this amazing side hustle. I use my style business as a way to complement my family’s income for things like trips or shopping (shoes are my addiction!). I’m also so passionate about helping women identify their style with simple style solutions that make them feel confident and empowered. Not to mention the women I have connected with and friends I have made both within Premier Designs and from my clients and hostesses.
My job as a Stylist is to help women curate their closet and inspire them to elevate their personal style both for business and casual settings in a way where they feel comfortable.
Whether they have me over their home for a personal one-on-one style or closet consultation; at their home or office for a small group style workshop or fundraising event, I share money-saving wardrobe tips and style solutions that are specific to them. The end result is that they learn how to effortlessly combine key pieces in their wardrobe and add final accessory touches from Premier Designs Jewelry collection to pull it all together so that their style reflects their habits, tastes, hobbies, mode of life, daily activities, and career.
Why does Premier Designs work for me and my family?
The beauty of the Premier Designs opportunity is that you don’t have to pressure anyone to try, use or sample the product. You don’t even really have to “sell” it. You technically do sell it but a woman will buy it when you just display it. Whether it be at a home style session, in an office, out of your trunk, in a coffee shop or out to dinner when you’re meeting with friends, running errands or when in pictures on your social profiles, if a woman likes the piece and can afford it, she will buy it. Jewelry is one of the top items that people buy all year long and high fashion jewelry is the top category of jewelry that’s bought throughout the year. Premier Designs quality is beyond exceptional and the “Golden Guarantee” can’t be beat.
Then there’s the income you can make. I’m sure you’re thinking, “Show me the money!”, right? There is hands down no other direct sales company that supports it’s representatives like Premier Designs. Not only do we make 50% of everything we sell from day one but there are NO quotas to earn that 50%. If you sell $12 or $2,000 you will always make 50%. So you’re wondering “OK, you make 50% but what exactly does that look like?” I personally like to do in-person style sessions both in homes, offices and virtually. My goal is to do one in-person style session per week.
On average my style sessions are about 3 hours long from the time I get there to set up until the time I leave and I average retail sales between $600-800 in that amount of time. I earn 50% of that immediately. So you do the math. Let’s see if it matches with mine. That’s a take home of $300-$400 on average in 3 hours of “work”. Yes, you read it right. Now break that down to per hour. You’re looking at about $100 per hour and I’m being conservative. This doesn’t include any sales I do when I do a virtual style session and from individual orders throughout the month. So for this non-jewelry wearer – believe me, it was worth learning how to wear and love the jewelry!

How can a woman thats a wife, mom and business owner have time for a side hustle?
Not having any quotas is also a fabulous thing. Remember, I own another business and am a mom of two with super active kids in soccer and gymnastics and a wife of an amazing and supportive husband. But time can many times be limited. As an example, I took a couple months off after having our second child and no, I didn’t earn any income from my Premier business but I also didn’t get penalized for not selling anything or have anyone blowing up my phone to get me to sell anything.
The simple marketing plan doesn’t end there and I could go on and on about it but that’s why we have this short and fun video. If you are even a tad bit curious, give yourself a few minutes to learn more about it. You’re worth it and knowledge never hurts. You never know, this just may be what you need. I’m always looking for new team members and would love to chat with you more to see if we are a good fit to work together and to answer any questions you may have. Feel free to reach out to me here!
In friendship and sparkle,
