10 Simple Tips and Tricks to a Pre-Wardrobe Cleanout

Below you’ll find 10 easy tips to clean out your wardrobe and get on track.

Go into your wardrobe and wear an outfit that you haven’t worn for a while

Just wear them for like an hour or something, or like a couple of hours just to see how it makes you feel. Does it make you feel good? Keep it. If not, it’s time to move it on.

Use your hangers

As you wear your clothes and you go to hang them back up, turn those hangers the opposite way.

And so after like a week or two, you’re going to start noticing hangers that still are the old hangers. Those are going to be the pieces that you don’t wear. This will give you a good idea and a good gauge as to what you’re wearing and not wearing in the closet.

Check what you wear

If you find yourself wearing the same shirt all the time, then that’s obviously a keeper. Pay attention to how often you wear your clothing so that you truly know what you’re using and what you’re not.

Pay attention to what is always left on laundry day

When it’s time to do your laundry, pay attention to what you have left in your closet, or in your drawers that you haven’t worn yet.

If you still have clothes then you definitely have to take a look at them and decide whether or not to keep them.

Try on your clothes

As you’re taking inventory of what you’ve worn and what you haven’t worn,  try them on and see if they still fit you. If they don’t, then definitely those are going to be taken into consideration whether to donate or to keep.

Give yourself a deadline to make alterations for clothing

Pull them out, maybe add a little sticky note on them with a date. You can set a deadline to get those alterations done on those pieces so that you can finally wear them.

Give the clothes away

I love to donate to Women in Distress (that’s a really great organization) or donate them to a family. Maybe put something on Facebook, for your friends to see or give to someone who needs some clothes.

Have a donation box ready

I’ll also always keep a donation box around like for my kids because they’re constantly growing out of their clothes. I typically have a place in their room like in a corner or in their closet, where we just keep piling up the clothes that we know we’re going to donate.

Rather than keeping it hung up or in the drawers to add to the clutter, it’s better to just take them out right away and then just stick them in a pile somewhere.

Be super honest with yourself

Does it fit? Is it going to realistically fit? Is it damaged? Or is it stained? Does it make you feel good? See how they make you feel.

Do you look good in it? Is it your color? Does it fit your body shape? When was the last time you wore it?

Stop buying more clothes

During my Stuck at Home Ultimate Wardrobe Clean Out Challenge you are going to learn how to create outfits from what you have kept in your wardrobe. We’re going to do a lot of different outfit combinations that you may really not even have thought that you could have put together. So stop buying more clothes.

Extra bonus tip…..

Give yourself time

It’s okay to give yourself a “maybe box.” It’s a “maybe box” so it clears them away and still gives you that space in your closet but doesn’t have you tossing it out quite yet.

With these easy tips, you’ll find that you have more space in your closet that creates a less cluttered feel. And even though you might be cutting down on the amount of clothing in your closet, you just might find that it actually gives you more looks and options overall!
